Portrait of Igor Stravinsky (1914)
Albert Gleizes
MoMa, NY City, USA |
|
|
|
IGOR STRAVINSKY was not just a great composer.
He was also one of the central figures in cultural life in Europe and the rest of the world.
To understand the man and the impact he made, it is very useful to read some of the biographies, written about him, and the many books, which he wrote with the help of Robert Craft. (Or, rather visa versa)
Following is an inventory of some of the books , I have collected and read (at least, tried to!). |

General Reference
Apart from special biographies and studies, I use a great deal of general reference musical history books and dictionairies, as well as the internet.
Richard Taruskin's The Oxford History of Western Music (2009 paperback 5 parts) is probably this best around.
The earliest reference books I bought was the four part Muziek door de eeuwen (1963 Broekmans en Van Poppel) by Drs. Kloppenburg.
The LP part of my collection has been purchased with amongst others these books as a guide.
